My Introduction To Health & Fitness
I was introduced to health and fitness when I was a professional dancer over 21 years ago. During a lift of my partner, I injured my shoulder which led to physical therapy. It was in PT that I learned that exercise could be used to heal, strengthen and restore the body. Prior to that, I had only thought of exercise for its aesthetic benefits. I was fascinated by everything I saw during physical therapy and wanted to learn and know more. My physical therapist saw my passion and allowed me to watch and learn after I completed my treatment. After a few months, she recommended that I look into personal training as a starting point. That was the beginning of my fitness career.
After working as a personal trainer for a few years I decided to upgrade my education in nutrition and wellness, which was another "aha" moment for me.
My Mom's Health & Wellness Struggles
Growing up I watched my mom struggle with health and weight issues for most of her adult life. By the time she was in her mid-30s, she had already survived 2 strokes and a cancer scare. By her early 40's she was taking medication for everything from high blood pressure, to osteoporosis, and she went into early menopause.
At 52 my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and bone cancer and was given 6 months to live. 3 months later she had a minor heart attack, and 3 months after that she passed away on New year's eve with me holding her hand.
With more than 10 years of fitness, nutrition, and wellness certifications, with additional specialized training and continuing education courses in hormone and metabolic health, I learned how nutrition can completely change the health and vitality of the body. Once I realized that every weight and health problem my mom struggled with could have been reversed, minimized, or even prevented through proper nutrition and physical activity it became my mission to help as many women as I can to avoid the same health and weight struggles that my mom did.
My Personal Health & Wellness Struggles
My own personal health and weight struggles began in my early forties. The unexplained belly fat, swelling and joint pain, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, and depression took a toll on my body and subsequently lead to a stroke. After my stroke, I made the decision to focus solely on improving my health and vitality through the same method of focusing on my personal nutrition and wellness needs. By changing my approach to nutrition and fitness with a focus on health, vitality, hormone balance, and longevity instead of weight loss, appearance, and muscle size I completely restored my health and truly renewed my life. I'm healthier, I have no inflammation or fatigue, and I have increased lean muscle which helps to strengthen my bones. I also reversed a pre-diabetes diagnosis and eliminated the chronic knee pain I experienced after having extensive knee surgery. I also fully recovered from my stroke and I lost over 40 pounds without ever cutting calories or doing overly strenuous workouts.
My metabolic health approach to coaching has helped transform the lives of hundreds of women from around the world, and it helped transform my life as well. All of my coaching and recommendations are centered around helping you minimize or alleviate the negative, hormone, health, and weight-related issues you've been struggling with.
