❓ PEOPLE ALSO ASK:
What are the three stages of menopause?
The three stages are perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. Perimenopause is the transitional phase where hormones begin to fluctuate, symptoms begin, and menstrual cycles become irregular. It can last anywhere from three to fifteen years and can begin as early as your late thirties. Menopause is confirmed after twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period. Post-menopause is the phase that follows, where hormone levels settle and long-term health becomes the primary focus.
How long does perimenopause last?
Perimenopause can last anywhere from three to fifteen years, and in some cases even longer. Every woman's experience is unique. During this phase, ovaries gradually reduce hormone production, leading to irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disruption, and fluctuating libido.
What happens to your body during post-menopause?
In post-menopause, hormone levels settle at their new normal and many symptoms ease. However, the health risks associated with lower estrogen levels, including bone density loss and cardiovascular changes, make this an important phase for regular health maintenance. Mammograms, bone density tests, and staying socially and physically active all become essential priorities.
