Hi, I'm Tafiq Akhir,
Growing up, I watched my mom struggle with health and weight issues for most of her adult life. By the time she was in her mid-thirties, she had already survived 2 strokes and a cancer scare. She also went into early menopause in her late thirties with horrible symptoms that lasted for over a decade. By her early forty's, she was taking medication for everything from high blood pressure to osteoporosis, and she suffered from severe sleep apnea. Back then, we didn't even know what that was; we all just thought she had an odd snore.
At 52, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and bone cancer and was given 6 months to live. 3 months later, she had a minor heart attack, and 3 months after that, she passed away on New year's eve with me holding her hand.
Many years later, when I was a professional dancer, I was introduced to health and fitness in a completely different way. During a lift of my partner, I injured my shoulder, which led to physical therapy. It was in PT that I learned that exercise could be used to heal, strengthen and restore the body. Before that, I had only thought of exercise for its aesthetic benefits. I was fascinated by everything I saw during physical therapy and wanted to learn and know more. My physical therapist saw my passion and recommended that I consider personal training as a starting point. That was the beginning of my fitness career.
I got my first job as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at a little gym called Beverly Hills Health & Fitness. My classes and coaching style quickly became popular with female members. After retiring from dance and putting all my effort into being the best health and fitness professional I could, I began getting recruited by some of the most popular health and fitness studios around Los Angeles at the time, including Gold's Gym Hollywood, Equinox West Hollywood, Bodies In Motion, LA DanceFit, and Sports Club LA.
Because my students and private clients were 90% women, I started taking classes and getting certified in women's health, hormones, and weight management. I learned how nutrition and fitness could completely change the metabolic health and vitality of the body. Once I realized every health, hormone, and weight problem my mom struggled with could have been reversed, minimized, or even prevented through proper nutrition and physical activity, it changed everything for me. It became my mission to help as many women as possible avoid the same hormone, health, and weight struggles my mom experienced.
Since then, my education and certifications have expanded to include hormone health specifically for women and nutrition for female metabolism. I also became a Licensed Menopause Specialist.
It is my mission to provide comprehensive hormone, health, and weight management services, resources, and education for midlife women struggling with many of the overlooked and underserved health issues that women continue to suffer from with very little if any, support.
In my free time, I enjoy doing anything creative in the fine or performing arts, spending time with close friends, and sharing a life with my spouse and partner of 17+ years, Darryl, and our two beautiful fur babies, Jasper and Lewie.
I am also a proud 5-year member of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood, where we help to support some of the most vulnerable brown and black children in our community by ensuring that ALL kids have access to quality education and have the needed resources for them to discover, learn, lead and succeed.
Thank you for checking out my website and taking the time to learn more about me, my family, and my mission.
Yours in health and wellness,
